Challenge

The lighting aisle in retail outlets and big box chains can be downright confusing, especially if you’re not exactly sure which bulb you need. Which is why Philips Lighting asked JK Design to redesign their packaging for an entire line of fluorescent lamps featured at The Home Depot. The challenge: The packaging must stand out from the lighting aisle clutter by clearly displaying information that consumers require to make an informed decision, maintaining the integrity of Philips’ strict brand guidelines and ensuring that each package is bilingual and beautiful.

 

Solution

What was the key to getting this project right? Simplicity. Let’s give consumers all the information they need in a clear and uncomplicated way, and let’s eliminate all confusion by using a bold, color-code system. As is often the case, with this project, less was more.

 

Results

In total, more than 140 packages were designed, produced, and placed in stores across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico, allowing consumers to find what they need without breaking a sweat. The redesign was so successful that the same package design will soon grace stores in Canada as well
